AFRL is interested in developing and maintaining a simulation environment built specifically for the autonomous flight domain with integrated machine learning (ML) support. AFRL is seeking interested parties to submit proposals for software solutions to address this need.

Background/Problem statement:

The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) has on-going research across multiple technical directorates (TDs) exploring machine learning (ML) for teaming of autonomous, unmanned, aerial vehicles (AUAVs). AFRL has adapted several simulation environments to handle experimentation with ML in the autonomous flight domain; however, research capabilities are limited. Additionally, the use of different tools throughout the enterprise introduces barriers to effective collaboration between the TDs, other government agencies, universities, and industry.

To address these gaps, AFRL is interested in developing and maintaining a simulation environment built specifically to apply teaming concepts to the autonomous flight domain with seamless support for ML. A common environment will establish an ability to share and reproduce research results across the enterprise and amplify our ability to successfully engage with external partners on shared research interests.
